Hiigh Court on Thursday asked the state government to take policy decisions on liquor ban within six months. Besides ensuring compliance of section 37A of the Excise Act which prohibits liquor, it has also asked for strict compliance of law prohibiting alcohol sale to a person under 21. "Many households...destroyed by alcohol consumption," a PIL filed earlier stated.

A division bench of the high court comprising Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Alok Kumar Verma directed the state government on Thursday to take a policy decision for gradual prohibition of alcohol, petitioner DK Joshi, an advocate said.
