When Ravana saw that his defeat was certain, he summoned his one thousand immortal demons and ordered them to go to the battlefield. These were the kind of demons that even time itself could not consume.
Seeing Shri Ram anxious along with the Vanara army, Anjananandan Hanuman Ji spoke, "Lord! What is the matter?" Vibhishana Ji explained everything. The situation seemed impossible to overcome.
The son of the wind said, "Lord! Just give me the command, and I alone will go and destroy Ravana's immortal army!"
"How, Hanuman? They are immortal!" asked Shri Ram.
"Lord! Do not worry about that, trust your servant!"
Seeing Hanuman Ji alone on the battlefield, the demons asked, "Who are you? Are you not afraid to see us that you dare to come alone to the battlefield?"
A fierce battle ensued, and with Hanuman Ji's blows, the demons started to fall in heaps on the battlefield. But they would stand up and fight again. Laughing loudly, they said, "Hanuman, we are immortal! It is impossible to defeat us! Hence, for your well-being, return with your master from Lanka."
Anjaneya replied, "I will return, but not because you say so! Rather, by my own will!"
"Yes, all of you attack me together, and then see my strength." As soon as the demons tried to attack Hanuman Ji together, the son of the wind wrapped them all in his tail and threw them high into the sky! They went beyond where Earth's gravitational pull reaches, and kept going higher and higher!
**Chale mag jat sukh gaye gaat:** - Goswami Tulsidas!
Their bodies dried up but, being immortal, they could not die! Thus, cursing Ravana and their immortality, they continue to rise higher even now.
Meanwhile, Hanuman Ji bowed at the feet of the Lord. Shri Ram asked, "What happened, Hanuman?"
"Lord! I am returning after sending them up."
Raghav: "But they were immortal, Hanuman!"
"Yes, Lord, that is why I sent them alive upwards. Now they can never come back down. Please swiftly send Ravana up as well, so that Mother Sita can reunite with you and King Vibhishana can ascend the throne!"
The Lord embraced Hanuman Ji and said:
"Hanuman Ji, the favor you have done is such that even if it ages and wears out in my limbs, I cannot repay it. For a favor is repaid during times of calamity!"
"Son! May no calamity ever come upon you!"
